Distributed System Administrator

Our multinational partner company is looking for a practical System Administrator to assist with automating, implementing, monitoring and administering a distributed computing infrastructure. The position is in an exciting international R & D project in the area of climate change and radically shifting weather paterns. The projects prime focus is the development of a state-of-the-art environmental monitoring platform within Lake George, in the state of New York, USA.

Tasks:

  • assist in automating, implementing, monitoring and administering a distributed computing infrastructure (distributed Linux servers, remote embedded platforms and graphics workstations),
  • work from high-level specification/instruction,
  • responsible for low level design and implementation.

Requirements:

  • experience with x86 servers (bare metal, Virtual Machines),
  • shell scripting experience,
  • Linux security and update patch experience,
  • practical experience with embedded Linux platforms (Raspberry Pi or other single board computer systems),
  • ability to do agile development.

Advantage:

  • issue tracking and management softwares (GitHub, Bugzilla, etc),
  • Log rotation and aggregation software for Linux,
  • Nagios monitoring platform,
  • systems management tools (Xcat, Puppet, Chef),
  • Scripting in Python,
  • VMWare ESX or other vx86 virtual machine systems (KVM, Xen, etc).
